The Black Gesture Series is a collection of four original mixed media works on paper by Canadian artist Murray Duncan. Each composition explores the expressive relationship between bold gestural line and subtle layered surfaces, creating a dynamic balance between movement, structure, and restraint. Working intuitively, Duncan builds each piece through successive layers of charcoal, graphite, paint, and drawing, allowing earlier marks to remain visible beneath the final composition. The result is a richly textured surface where spontaneous black gestures contrast with quiet, neutral grounds, inviting the viewer to discover new relationships with every viewing.
